Martin C. Putna

Prof. Mgr. Martin Cyril Putna, Dr., (born 30 May 1968, Písek) is a Czech literary historian, university teacher, publicist and essayist. He works at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague.
== Biography and career ==
Putna was born in Písek, Czech Republic. Between 1986 and 1991 he studied Philology at the Charles University in Prague. Since 1992 he has worked at the Charles University. He also studied Theology at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. He was visiting scholar at the University of Regensburg.
In May 2013 he was nominated to be a professor of social and cultural anthropology, but the president of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman refused to appoint him because of Putna's involvement in Prague Gay Pride. He was appointed in June 2013 but the decree was presented to Putna by the Czech Minister of Education Petr Fiala in lieu of Zeman.〔(Putna se dočkal profesorského dekretu, místo Zemana mu ho předal Fiala ), iDNES.cz, 25. 6. 2013〕
